Teen Life Internship Program
When considering jobless urban teenagers, some have only negative images of listless teens loitering on a street corner. Our images are quite different. We see one hundred professionally-dressed kids lined up at our door, hungry for an opportunity to prove themselves. Each June, New City holds a three day job fair for any interested Jersey City teen. The fair consists of job readiness training (such as resume writing, professionalism and communication), role plays, and interviews. Teens gain a broad range of skills that make them more employable and more likely to succeed in the workplace.

The teen employment program strives to enhance the social, educational, artistic and leadership development of Jersey City teens by offering them a unique work experience. This includes job training, performance evaluations, relational mentoring, life skills seminars and career exposure. Students with high GPAs have the opportunity to work additional hours, while those struggling academically are tutored until their grades go up. SAT prep classes and a Historically Black Colleges tour are offered to eligible teens.
Volunteers
Many teens employees at New City Kids begin as After School Center volunteers. Interested teenagers can come to New City to apply, or click to download:
